ICR to Present International Reindeer Husbandry to the Crown Prince of Norway

haakon_mette_marit_150px The Crown Prince of Norway, Haakon Magnus and the Crown Princess Mette Marit are making an official visit to the Sami area this week, to conincide with the celebratation of Sami National Day (Feb 6). On February 5, in an event organised and coordinated by the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess will be hosted in a lavvu and informed by ICR Director Anders Oskal about the 20 year development of international cooperation in reindeer husbadnry around the circumpolar world. They will then be taken to visit the Ardni-siida reindeer herd, where they will hosted by Karen Anna Logje Gaup. En route, EALAT project leader Svein Mathiesen, and EALAT Phd students and elders will demonstrate to the visitors the story and importance of snow to reindeer husbandry, in a changing climate, a theme which the Norwegian royals have been highly engaged with.
