The Assocation of WOrld Reindeer Herders held its first Board meeting, with a  new structure and Board, in Tromso this week (April 27, 2009). In attendence were new WRH President Odd Erling Smuk, Board Chair Mikhail Pogodaev and board members Inger Anita Smuk and Juha Magga. Also present was International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry Director, Anders Oskal.
 

The board discussed a wide range of issues and the final version of the Kautokeino Declaration from the IV World Reindeer Herders Congress which is expected to be released shortly. The Board Meeting was held the headquarters of the Norwegian Reindeer Herders'Association and was timed to coincide with the Melting Ice Conference organised by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Senior Arctic Officials Meeting and the Arctic Council Ministerial Meeting all being held this week in Tromso
