UN Report on Reindeer Husbandry and Climate Change Now Available

At its eighth session in May 2009, the Permanent Forum appointed Lars-Anders Baer, Member of the Permanent Forum, as Special Rapporteur to prepare a study on the matter of impact of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures on reindeer herding and requested the report be submitted to the Permanent Forum’s ninth session in April 2010. Baer is a Sami from the Swedish side of Sapmi and is himself from a reindeer herding background
This Study on the impact of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures on reindeer herding is a synthesis of a more extended paper.
The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues is held annually in New York, with this years meeting being held between 19-30 April.
Baer has prepared a synthesis report of 29 pages in extensive collaboration and cooåperation with the Association of World Reindeer Herders and the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry.
