EALÁT, ICR, BIRGEN to Present at WINHEC Meeting - Watch Live! |

The annual WINHEC (World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium) is currently having its AGM in Kautokeino. Today, Weds Augsut 25th, under the theme of Sustainable development and climate change, several members of the EALÁT team and the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry (ICR) will be presenting their work to the meeting. ICR Director Anders Oskal will give an introduction to the IPY EALÁT-Network Study. Phd student Ellen Inga Turi will present her work on social organisation of reindeer husbandry on Yamal and Sapmi. BIRGEN project leader Karen Inga Kemi will give an overview of the BIRGEN project. Ristin Eira who has participated in several EALÁT activities will give an overview of the Reindeer Husbandry Education course at teh Sami University College. She will be followed by Helena Omma, who will give Sami youth perspectives on sustainability and climate change - she is the President of Saminuorra, the Sami youth organisation. Anne-Maria Magga of ICR will present on climate change, traditional knowledge and sustainability in the Gálgujávri Siida, Finland. The last presentation will be made by Elna Sara who will give the audience a 20 year history of the Association of World Reindeer Herders (WRH). You can watch the entire meeting live stream here.
