Large Arctic Conference in Salekhard This Week |

A major Arctic related conference is being held this week in Salekhard, in the Yamal Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO). The conference is entitled 'Innovations as a Factor of the Arctic Sustainable Development'. The Chair of the Association of World Reindeer Herders, Mikhail Pogodaev and President of the WRH Council Odd Erling Smuk are among the attendees. The conference runs from Wednesday to Saturday.
Keynote speakers include the Governor of the YNAO Dmitry N. Kobylkin, Alexander Bedritskiy (Advisor to President Medvedev on climate change), Serge Haruchi (RAIPON leader and Chair of the YNAO Legislative Assembly) and Gennady Oleynik (Advisor to the Chair of the Federation Council). The Conference is divided into multiple sessions with titles such as 'International collaboration as a basis of the innovative development of the circumpolar region', Faster growth factors of the Arctic development, and a session that will focus on reindeer husbandry, 'Social oriented models of keeping traditional husbandry of the indigenous people.
