There was a large turnout at the Reindeer Portal Training Seminar (October 19-20) hosted by the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry in the new Diehtosiida building of the Sami University College. The seminar was given by the Reindeer Portal Project Manager, Philip Burgess. The goal was of the seminar was to train more people on how to author articles and upload documents and images to the Reindeer Portal and the EALÁT web platforms. Both these websites are hosted by the Arctic Portal in Iceland, in continuation of the long collaboration between ICR and the Arctic Portal. The web platform utilised is the popular open source software, Joomla. The entire staff of the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry were there, as were a number of EALÁT researchers, including the EALÁT project coordinator. There were also a number of staff from the Sami University College, including the newly appointed coodinator of the Boazodoallu ja luonddufága, a 30 study point at the Sámi University College, organised by Svein Mathiesen, the EALÁT project leader. The first part of the seminar was also attended by students from the Boazodoalluskuvla, the Upper Secondary and Reindeer Husbandry school in Guovdageaidnu. On October 23, Philip Burgess continued with the students in learning content creation, web link submission and image and link creation. Burgess was joined by Mathiesen and students will be spending the next few weeks looking at climate change and reindeer husbandry and submitting stories and images to a newly created site on the Reindeer Portal. Several new sites inside the Reindeer Portal were created - for the Boazodoalluskuvla project, for the Boazodoallu ja luonddufága and for the ICR hosted project BIRGEN, all of which are now live.
