Reindeer Husbandry and Mineral Mining - Will Sami Reindeer Husbandry Survive the Future Mining Programs? A seminar will be held in Kautokeino on Wednesday 21 March, 2012 that will directly address a priority issue for reindeer herders in Finnmark and beyond - that of the impact of mining on reindeer herding. The seminar is part of the training program: Future Arctic Leaders : “Training Indigenous Leaders for New Arctic Challenges” March 20th –30rd, 2012 also to be held in Kautokeino, Norway. The seminar is free and open to all and will be chaired by Prof. Svein D. Mathiesen and Phd student Ellen Inga Turi. A broad range of participants from reindeer husbandry and industry will ensure thought provoking and challenging viewpoints from an issue of importance to people across Finnmark, the Sami region and beyond.
