The International Centre for Husbandry (ICR) Director Anders Oskal is currently on the Yamal tundra (in the Yamal Nenets Autonomous Okrug) with key partners from EALÁT, the Association of World Reindeer Herders and the Russian Union of Reindeer Herders. As EALÁT Phd students Ellen Inga Turi and Anna Degteva begin their fieldwork on two different brigades, they were accompanied for their first week by EALÁT project leader, Svein Mathiesen, EALÁT coordinator in Yamal Leonid Khudi, Vice President of the Association of World Reindeer Herders Dmitri Khorolya and others. The team travelled by helicopter to Brigade 2 from Salekhard yesterday. Oskal and the others will return to Salekhard early next week, with Mathisen, Degteva and Turi wrapping up their field work at the end of the month. Pictures to follow.
