Turi Proposes UN Village at GRID 20th Anniversary |

Association of World Reindeer Herders General Secretary, Johan Mathis Turi was a guest speaker at the 20th Anniverary of the UN GRID Arendal office held last weekend in the village of Arendal, southern Norway. GRID-Arendal is an official United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) collaborating centre, supporting informed decision making and awareness-raising through: Environmental information management and assessment, Capacity building services and Outreach and communication tools, methodologies and products. There was a high level celebration of the work of the last two decades with speeches from several national and international dignitaries. Turi was one those selected to speak and he congratulated GRID on their work and suggested that their Arctic work be moved to an Arctic location, suggesting that a UN 'village' be established in the reindeer herding village of Kautokeino, in northern Norway.
