ICR Director Launches UArctic Thematic Networks at ASSW, Bergen |

Anders Oskal, the Director of the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry launched the University of the Arctic (UArctic) thematic networks on behalf of the University of the Arctic in Bergen yesterday.
The launch was part of the opening day of the Arctic Summit Science Week (ASSW), a week long international Arctic science meeting being held in Bergen and the launch signals the launch of the UArctic's new global change curriculum. The meeting was attended by over 300 participants and the UArctic launch was the final presentation to the plenary meeting.

 The Saami Council and the Association of World Reindeer Herders have invited HSH Albert II of Monaco to open the childrens art competition entitled Children of Reindeer Husbandry, which will be held during the 4th World Reindeer Herders Congress. According to the invite,
From what we know about Prince Alice's interest in climate and nature in the polar regions, indigenous people and reindeer, and in particular his involvement in UNESCO, we hope that Prince Albert II will find the opportunity to make a visit to Sápmi and the 4th World Congress of Reindeer People

 Verdenskongressen for Reindriftsfolk avholdes denne gang i det største reindriftsområdet i Fennoskandia. Vertskapet for kongressen er Norske Reindriftsamers Landsforbund (NRL) og Guovdageainnu suohkan (Kautokeino kommune).
Verdenskongressen for Reindriftsfolk utgjøres av delegater og representanter fra 28 reindriftsregioner rundt hele det cirkumpolare området innenfor ni nasjonalstater (fra hele Sápmi, Russland, Mongolia, Kina, Canada, Grønland, Alaska). Verdenskongressen avholdes hvert 4. år.

 The Association of World Reindeer Herders Congress is fast approaching. Youth are the future of reindeer husbandry and encouraging youth to recreate scenes from reindeer husbandry in their region has been a feature of previous World Reindeer congresses, all the way back to the first international gathering of reindeer herders in Tromsø 1993.
