Sametinget i Sverige, International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry / ICR och Suoma Boazosámit, startar ett traineeprogram för ungdomar inom renskötseln. Programmet riktar sig till unga renskötare som vill satsa på utåtriktat information, samt engagera sig i rennäringspolitiska frågor.
Den som söker ska ha förutsättningar för att utveckla ledarskap, ha samhällsengagemang och en utåtriktad personlighet samt vara intresserad av att arbeta gränsöverskridande.

 In the western world this time of the year is heavily associated with the advent of Christmas, Santa Claus, reindeer and sledges, alongside a heavy dose of consumerism. So, despite cold temperatures and it being a time of low light, this makes it an excellent time to actually visit people who really do spend a great time of their year on sledges pulled by reindeer.
A small EALÁT team (Svein Mathiesen, Anna Degteva and Philip Burgess) took the time to visit their Nenets EALÁT partners in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, at the northern tip of the Ural Mountains in North west Siberia. The region includes the Yamal Peninsula the largest area of reindeer husbandry in the world, where over 5000 Nenets, Khanti and some Komi practice nomadic reindeer herding throughout the year. The Yamal Peninsula is also the location of Russia’s most important energy project, the gas fields Bovanenkovo. The development of these nationally strategic resources will have major impacts on the future shape of reindeer husbandry in the region.

Ассоциация «Оленеводы Мира» и Международный Центр Оленеводства принимают участие в климатическом саммите СОР15 в Копенгагене.
Международный саммит по проблемам климата, открывшийся недавно в Копенгагене, собрал более 20 тыс. человек из 195 стран. Участники конференции пытаются сблизить подходы к новому глобальному соглашению, которое должно заменить или расширить требования Киотского протокола. Главное климатическое соглашение - Киотский протокол - завершает свое действие в 2012 году. Однако подготовка нового документа, который должен прийти на смену действующему протоколу, началась задолго до этого срока. Наиболее вероятным считается принятие политического соглашения, которое должно включать в себя конкретные обязательства по снижению антропогенного воздействия на климат земли.

 Gunn Britt Retter, Head of the Sami Council' Arctic and Environmental Unit has been an active participant at the current COP 15 climate negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark. She gave a presentation in the WWF Arctic Tent – Indigenous Day (one of the many side events) on December 8. There she stated clearly that the drive by nation states to search for mitigation efforts (developing 'green power' alternatives such as Wind and Hydro) has serious impacts on the lands of indigenous peoples.
