 The Government of Norway has launched a You Tube channel, with their age listed as 104... Although the selection is small, the channel is new and several of the new videos are of interest to the Reindeer Portal and EALÁT. They feature Bob Corell and former Vice President Al Gore and their presentations to the Melting Ice: Regional Dramas, Global Wake-Up Call in Tromsø earlier this year, which was attended by EALÁT, the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry and the Association of World Reindeer Herders.  The world wide distributed magazine National Geographic carried a short feature about how development and loss of pastures was impacting reindeer herders migratory routes on the coast of Norway. The International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry liased closely with staff at the National Geographic, providing expertise, advice and maps. The article is in the November 2009 edition.

PRESS RELEASE: DR ROBERT W CORELL PROFESSOR AT NEW UARCTIC INSTITUTE IN KAUTOKEINO NORWAY.
The board of the University of the Arctic (UArctic) has endorsed the creation of UArctic Institute of Circumpolar Reindeer Husbandry as an International Polar Year (IPY) legacy after IPY and IPY EALÁT project .The founding partners of this new institute, located in Kautokeino / Guovdageaidnu, Norway, will include the Association of World Reindeer Herders, the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry and the Sami University College.
The renowned academic Dr Robert W. Corell has accepted a position as Professor in this new UArctic Institute. Dr. Corell brings an impressive resume and unparalleled experience to this new position, which is to be funded jointly by the Sami University College and the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry. Corell was chair of the Arctic Council Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA), is chair of the Climate Action Initiative (CAI), is a senior advisor to Global Environment and Technology Foundation and on leave Vice President of the H .John Heinz II Centre for Science, Economics and Environment.

 The opening of Diehtosiida, the new Sami University College building was widely covered in the regional media. Anders Oskal made a presentation about the work of the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry to the guests of honour. You can see a small gallery of pictures here on the Reindeer Portal.

Diehtosiida Opens, ICR & WRH Present |

 The new building housing the Sami University College called Diehtosiida was officially opened last week in Kautokeino & Guovdageaidnu. The Opening was attended by representatives of the Sami parliaments of Norway, Sweden and Finland and the Minister of Agriculture in Norway was the highest level government representative present. The Ministry of Agriculture is the highest administrative body that regulates reindeer husbandry in Norway.
The opening was followed by several events and an academic conference. Johan Mathis Turi in his position as Chair of ICR was present along with all the employees of ICR. ICR was also featured in a short film made about Diehtosiida that was made by KautoFilm, a local film production company. You can watch this video here.
