 The village of Guovdageaidnu / Kautokeino is readying itself for the Senior Arctic Officials meeting, November 19-20. Over 170 attendees are confirmed, with representatives from all 8 Arctic countries.
The Permanent Participants will be here in strength as will a large number of Observers, including sizeable delegations from Korea and China. The event is even more international than usual as many of delegates will be overnighting in Hetta, Finland.

The Senior Arctic Officials Meeting is being held in Kautokeino / Guovdageaidnu on the 19-20 November 2009. The Reindeer Portal has created a webpage for the visitors, for many of whom, it will be their first time in the region.  The Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Arctic” (VACCA) workshop has just wrapped up in Tromso (22-23 October). The goal of the workshop was to hear various presentations that addressed the theme and prepare a document of recommendations in order to submit to the Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group. The workshop was convened by Ilman Kelman and Grete Hovelsrud Broderstad (both of CICERO). EALAT was presented by Anders Oskal. Other attendees from EALAT included Ole Isak Eira, Ellen Inga Turi, Ravdna Biret Marja Eira, Svein Mathiesen, Anna Degteva and Philip Burgess

 This week has seen intense activity for the Association of World Reindeer Herders, International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry and the EALAT project with the Arctic Languages Symposium, the Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Arctic (VACCA) and the Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group meeting.
