The Association of World Reindeer Herders (WRH) and the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry (ICR) hosted a visiting delegation (Weds October 1 – Sat Oct 3) from China led by Professor Hao Shiyuan, of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He was accompanied by four researchers and academics from the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, who all specialized in Tibet, with a focus on Tibetan pastoralism. Their other research fields included Chinese minorities, resettlement policies, cultural history and Tibetan nationalism.

The International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry Director, Anders Oskal and Association of World Reindeer Herders General Secretary Johan Mathis Turi are visiting Yakutsk and Aldan in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Russia this week. They met with Russian Academy of Sciences Institute of Humanities and Indigenous Peoples of the North today, to discuss the future range of their resepctive cooperation and the creation of a formal cooperation agreement.

New photographs on the Reindeer Portal - in June, the Association of World Reindeer Herders and the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry visited Evenki herders in China. Part of the trip entailed the signing of a memorandum between Evenki herders and WRH, there was a reindeer peoples festival in Aolugoya and connections were made with the other Evenki herding clans in the region.

Reindeer Portal Landmark - Visitors from 100 Countries |

The Reindeer Portal has just passed an exciting landmark - Visitors from over 100 countries have been to our site and learned about the work of the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry, the EALAT project and the Association of World Reindeer Herders. So far, there have been visitors from 101 countries have visited over 30,000 pages. Top three countries in terms of visits are Norway, the US and Finland. The top ten includes the Russia, Sweden, the UK, France and Germany among others.

The Association of World Reindeer Herders and the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry recently returned from a visit to Evenki reindeer herders in North East China. Evenki in this region are part of the ancient reindeer herding peoples of the Taiga of Inner Asia, which is believed to be the birthplace of reindeer husbandry. The purpose of the visit was information sharing and initiating cooperation for the future.
