Johan Mathis Turi and Elna Sara of the Association of World Reindeer Herders have this week left for China to visit reindeer herders. China is not often thought of when it comes to reindeer husbandry, but Evenki are spread over huge distances of present day Russia, China and Mongolia. Turi and Sara will be visiting the Aoluguya reindeer herder and minority culture festival. in a unique opportunity for the Association of World Reindeer Herders to connect with reindeer herders in China.

Styret for forskningsmidler over reindriftsavtalen har på møte den 6. juni 2008 innvilget støtte til 12 nye forskningsprosjekter. Prosjektene som det innvilget støtte til har en kostnadsramme på 5 mill kr inneværende år. I tillegg er det 6 pågående prosjekter som har fått støtte. The Reindeer Husbandry Administration in Norway has announced the 12 projects that were successful in applying for funding for 2008/9 to a total of 5 Million NOK.

The recent EALAT Information workshop and interviews held in Topolinoe, Sakha Republic, is the subject of a new video on the Reindeer Portal. The video shows clips from the seminar held in the Topolinoe administration buildings, the discussions surrounding snow terminology and castration techniques at a reindeer herders camp outside Topolinoe and finally interviews with reindeer herders who were attending the Reindeer Herders Celebration Day which was being held concurrently. In May 2008, the Association of World Reindeer Herders presented an EALAT Information progress report to the Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group in Oslo, in a presentation that included talks by Anders Oskal, Johan Mathis Turi and Vladimir Etylin, along with film clips.
